Native Americans Day is honored the second Monday in October, this year on October 12 – and yes, Virginia, that IS Columbus Day – the day a certain Spaniard did not discover America in 1492. And no, I have no special feelings about THAT history lesson. And to dispel that grief, here’s a really beautiful way to welcome a Native American tradition of a Smudging Ceremony, or a cleansing for your home. You will need a sage bundle for this cure (you can also use incense sticks). And yes, Virginia, it’s a Feng Shui cure, too. It’s used to wash away the old, used-up, tired energy and to welcome new, energized, vibrant chi. Light a sage bundle, let it burn for a few seconds then blow it out allowing the bundle to smoke. Stand inside at the front door of your home with the sage bundle in your hand. Offer a prayer of gratitude to God/the Universe/Everything and ask to walk in balance with the world, the whole world, the natural world, the business world, the humans, the cats, the dogs, the fish, the rocks, and the plants – all of it. Walk the entire floor plan of your home, in a clockwise direction, repeating the prayer and sending love to all God’s creation. Do so for all floors (basements included). Now simply open the windows wide to welcome in the love and light!
