Earth Overshoot Day

Today, August 13th, is Earth Overshoot Day AND my wedding anniversary. Happy anniversary, my husband!! That said, what is “Earth Overshoot Day”, also known as “Ecological Debt Day” you ask? It’s the day that we, the world’s population, have exhausted a whole calendar year’s supply of natural resources in less than a year. Global Footprint Network describes it as the “point in the year when humans have exhausted supplies such as land, trees and fish and outstripped the planet’s annual capacity to absorb waste products including carbon dioxide.” And the date slips forward each year. In 2000, we didn’t enter overshoot until early October compared to last year’s overshoot date of August 19. Oh, the doom and gloom. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We are the most BRILLIANT species on the planet. We have the ability to live, to learn, to grow, and to CHANGE. So lets make NEXT year’s date go in reverse. Let’s put the “Green” in The Green Feng Shui Lady. Let’s drive less and walk more. Let’s consume less and share more. Put on your Feng Shui glasses and Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Grow your own container garden. Give up one meal out a week and donate that money to a non-profit working to SAVE THE PLANET like Cura Oceanus – my favorite.
